What is Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a self-defense martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting, and submission holds. BJJ approaches self-defense by emphasizing taking an opponent to the ground, gaining a dominant position, and using a variety of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.

Having been recognized as one of the most realistic forms of self defense and fighting, Jiu-jitsu helps everyday people feel more self confidant and safe.

The benefits of regular exercise and resistance training have huge impacts on cardiovascular health and over all fitness.

Unlike "big box" franchise academies, Team Rivas has focused on  tailoring instruction to fit student's needs. People often mention how it's more like a family.

 Adults & Teens

Adults and Teens classes are designed to implement and teach  techniques that have been rigorously proven over time and at the top levels of competition. Classes are both in the Gi and NoGi.

Students will learn valuable skills in not only self defense, but a variety of skills that range from focus, problem solving, and grit. Kids classes start at 7 years old and are in both Gi and NoGi.
